About Us:

MC Academy (formerly known as MCSE - Manchester Central School of English) first opened in 2005 in Manchester City Centre and since then, we have been enthusiastically welcoming students from all over the world to our warm and friendly school. MC Academy is also a PASSWORD TEST CENTRE, test takers receive valuable certification to provide evidence of their English language level.

Location:

MC Academy is located in the heart of Manchester, in Piccadilly Gardens, the most central school in Manchester. All major transportation links are no more than a 5-minute walk from our school. Bus and tram links are based in Piccadilly Gardens and Piccadilly train station is within a 5-minute walking distance from our school.

Courses:

We provide a wide variety of English courses – from General English to Exam Preparation to Vocational English training. We provide both face-to-face and online courses year-round.

General English:

The General English courses we provide at MC Academy are designed for students of all levels of English who want to improve their language skills in order to facilitate their everyday lives or improve their English level. Using a wide range of course books and materials, MC Academy provides students with the skills and confidence to succeed in an English-speaking environment.

IELTS Exam Preparation:

Our IELTS Exam Preparation courses are designed for students who wish to further their academic career at a UK university. Our IELTS Exam Preparation courses provide you with the knowledge and skills to progress towards higher education.

Business English:

Our Business English course is designed for students who can actively use the majority of grammatical structures in English and who can demonstrate their accuracy and fluency in the skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

Students at this level are also able to identify and produce texts of varying purposes and are aware of, for example, style, register and genre. Students are likely to be those with a professional interest in business or those who are currently students of Business and/or Management.

Cambridge Exam Preparation:

Our Cambridge Exam Preparation courses are focused on providing students with the skills and the knowledge to prepare for the Cambridge Exam. The course focusses not only general English skills but encourages students to develop new methods of understanding and learning in English to apply to academic fields.

MC Academy offers courses to prepare for the two Cambridge test levels:

– FCE (also known as First Certificate or Cambridge B2)

– CAE (also known as Advanced Certificate or Cambridge C1)

One-to-One:

Our one-to-one classes highlight an individual’s areas for improvement and provide opportunities to work on individual needs. An individual learning plan is agreed between the teacher and student, ensuring that the student’s needs and requirements are met.

Pre-Sessional Course:

Study at a UK University without the need for an IELTS score. MC Academy is delighted to have teamed up with De Montfort University, Coventry University, Greenwich University, and Bangor University, who have all agreed to accept our certificates as evidence of English level. This means that anyone applying to one of the aforementioned universities will not need to take a pre-sessional course or language test to meet the language requirement for entry.

EAP (English for Academic Purposes):

The EAP course at MC Academy is designed for students who wish to pursue an academic career by studying at a UK university. Our EAP course is designed to provide students with the academic skills and knowledge to progress to higher education in the UK.

Skills Classes:

Our Skills classes are designed to provide General English students with additional skills in key areas of learning. For 1 hour per week, students will focus on a particular area of study to master its techniques and strategies.

Supplementary Classes:

Our Supplementary classes are designed to provide students with new methods of learning English. These classes provide students with new material that they are likely to encounter in the English-speaking world outside of the classroom environment. Discover new ways of learning in an interactive and engaging way.

Tailor-Made Classes:

Students may request to study a particular subject at MC Academy to improve their skills in a distinct field. Tailor-made classes are subject to availability and all requests may be discussed with our Director of Studies.

Facilities:

Comfortable Classrooms

The classrooms at MC Academy are all fitted with interactive whiteboards and have internet access, allowing students to study using their laptops in class.

Student Lounge

The student lounge is the main hub of our school, allowing students to interact with one another during the break times between classes. The student lounge is conveniently located next to the school’s Reception, so students can easily ask questions relating to their course or ask for advice should they require it.


IT Room

The IT Room is open to students who wish to use a computer to study whilst at MC Academy. The IT Room has a number of computers which can be used to book tests and complete additional research.

Library

In the library, we have a vast collection of books for students to use whilst studying at the school, including:

– Grammar books, to improve grammar skills

– Dictionaries for all levels, to improve writing skills

– Readers, to improve reading skills

– DVDs and videos, to improve listening skills.

Prayer Room

Our prayer room is open to students of all faiths and is designed to provide students with a quiet area to pray and gather their thoughts.

Social Area

Our social area is used for gatherings and school parties at MC Academy, allowing students to interact with one another in a large open area. Our social area is often used for the school’s indoor social activities but is also used for meetings, parties, extra-curricular activities and evening events host at the school.

Disabled Access

MC Academy is a wheelchair-friendly school, proving step-free access and disabled toilet facilities. Lift access is available to all students who need to travel between the two floors of MC Academy.

Accommodation

At MC Academy we are pleased to offer high standard host family and residential accommodation for all our students. Providing a quality space for relaxing and studying is part of our commitment to ensuring each student has a memorable time with us. Dietary requirements and special requests are easily catered for, including Halal and vegetarian meals.

Social Activity Programme

MC Academy offers a diverse and engaging social activity programme designed to provide students with a fun way to practice their English language skills outside of the classroom environment. Our social activity programme changes from week to week so no week is ever the same. Activities include excursions around Manchester, creative clubs, book club and history workshops.


IELTS Workshops

Afternoon workshops are available to all IELTS students at MC Academy. Our workshops focus on reading, speaking and listening skills in preparation for the IELTS exam. Students practice their skills and are given first-hand feedback during the session.
