Little Talkers NI

Little Talkers NI provides a friendly and relaxed atmosphere for each child and his/her family. As a parent or carer you are given time to talk about your child’s development and the opportunity to ask questions about his/her speech and language skills. Our services are based on current theory and best practice, helping each child to achieve his/her communication potential.

Assessment:

On your first visit, the Speech and Language Therapist will carry out an assessment of your child’s communication. This usually lasts between 1–1 hours and takes place on a formal and/or informal basis. A detailed case history will be taken. It is useful to make available any reports from other professionals for the therapist to read. Assessment enables appropriate and specific therapy goals to be set for each child.

A summary of the therapist’s findings and preliminary recommendations will be discussed at the end of the assessment. A fully detailed, written report is always provided within two weeks.

Therapy:

Therapy sessions are based on the goals identified within the initial assessment and therefore centred on your child’s individual needs.

Therapy is provided through stimulating and interactive play activities, which help your child to feel relaxed, happy and motivated. Parents and carers are offered advice and support and encouraged to attend each session. This means that activities can be demonstrated and carried over into your child’s daily routine.

School Programmes:

When appropriate, therapy can be designed to include both direct and/or indirect therapy programmes within school. Direct therapy is carried out by the Speech and Language Therapist, whilst indirect therapy will usually be carried out by a Learning Support Assistant following demonstration, training and regular reviews by the Speech and Language Therapist.

Training:

Little Talkers NI is able to offer communication seminars for professionals, parents and carers on request.
